The more I think about it, the madder I get.

I just watched the GOP debate tonight, and not one of those knuclheaded men would stand up for women and say that women are strong and caapable of making good decisions about birth control for themselves.

What a bunch of cowardly men those four are!

    Oenophile,

You said, "and say that women are strong and caapable of making good decisions about birth control for themselves."

Because it is common knowledge. Women already are fully capable of making good decisions, as are men about birth control and themselves.

You also don't need to stand up and say the Sun is hot.

You already couldn't defend your claims in the other thread now you created a brand new one?

I am starting to think you just want to believe that the other side hates women so you have a target for your angst.

I agree Oenophile. We all will be in serious trouble if the same morons that elected George Bush TWICE are successful in getting one of these right wing nuts into the White House.

My how quickly the discussion devolves to name calling.

So not only are the candidates "nuts" but the voters are "morons."

    From Wikipedia:

"An ad hominem (Latin for "to the man" or "to the person"), short for argumentum ad hominem, is an attempt to negate the truth of a claim by pointing out a negative characteristic or belief of the person supporting it.

Catching up on the debate last night, I think three of the candidates exceeded the number and intensity of previous debates in the use of " ad hominem " attacks on President Obama and especially towards one another. That was just painful to watch - and a disgrace.

    Oenophile,

"Donning the cloak of righteous right, are we!"

No, just pointing out that name calling isn't an effective way to dispute facts. Most rational adults can see right through it.

Candidate: "I believe this policy is right for us"

Random Forum Blogger: "He's a stupid idiot."

That doesn't really get us anywhere and it doesn't advance the bloggers point. It just shows that the ability to continue debating has been exhausted and the blogger is giving up.

I would tend agree that ad hominem attacks aren't an effective way to dispute facts and hopefully "rational" Republicans will see right through Romney, Santorum and Newt, last night. Heck, that debate made for a " fact checker" field day.

It feels a whole lot more honest and straightforward for a person who voted for Bush to be called "a moron" than to pull definitions from Wiki to put a pseudo-righteous and pseudo-academic spin on the opinion.

This will be considered an ad hominum attack on Santorum, but that guy is wacko, in my opinion.

Watching Santorum after last night's debate with some of his grown children standing behind him, I couldn't help but wonder which of them as young children had held their deceased sibling in their young arms.

This is where I cross the line about maintaining objectivity in my posts to the degree possible to an emotional reaction to post 12 by you Oenophile. That was a vile thing to say and totally out of line. Anyone who has lost a child would be pained by that comment or anyone who has the ability to understand other's anguish would find that comment at a minimum , thoughtless and offensive. Furthermore, how a family choses to grieve, honor and say goodbye to a family member in accordance with their private beliefs isn't any of your business nor should they be subject to that type of publicly expressed, unkind " rumination".

Btw, the baby's name was Gabriel Michael. I don't think it is wacky at all that they brought Gabriel Michael home. I am of a certain age that I call still recall when having a deceased family member being laid out in the Parlor for viewing and grieving over was the prevailing practice.. including taking photographs.
